How to Apply

Artist Membership in Waterstone Gallery

Waterstone Gallery reviews artists’ work on a regular basis. There are currently 18 artists.

Artist members are assessed a monthly fee to cover rent and operating expenses. Currently it is $167. Each artist works at the gallery 2 days per month and must also volunteer for some duties essential to the operation of the gallery, i.e., Publicity, Treasurer, Secretary, Maintenance, etc.. Attendance is required at a monthly business meeting held at 3:30 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Artists are also responsible for working a one hour shift on First Thursday evening. There is a 3 month trial period during which either the artist or the gallery can withdraw from the agreement.

The gallery intends to display at least one artwork of each artist every month. There is an annual group show every year. There is limited storage in our vertical stacks but each artist can have 3-7 (depending on size) additional works stored in those stacks. The gallery retains 23% commission on sales.

One-person exhibitions are selected on a rotational basis. Each member-artist is given a show month every 18 to 24 months. All costs associated with a solo show are to be covered by the artist. This includes partial payment of the one page PADA ad and other expenses associated with advertising their exhibition. The preview opening costs will also be borne by the artist as well. The artist will work in cooperation with the marketing committee to promote the event. This includes providing press release information in a timely fashion among other responsibilities. The hanging committee will assist the artist with the exhibition installation.

An artist wishing to leave the gallery shall give a 3 month notice to the gallery Director. Dues and gallery sitting responsibilities are still in effect during this period.
