When we think of the words “abstract art” a number of different ideas come to mind. The 9 artist-members who are participating in this exhibition show a few of examples of this genre. From the abstracted forms of Greg Wilbur’s hammered metal to the subtle textures of Kathy Haydon’s mixed media paintings one can see references from known worlds. The landscape painters Jean Clugston and Scott Johnson distill the colors and atmosphere of the natural world to their softly sensual works, discovering a new way of looking at their subject. Nancy Wilkins, Martha Pfanschmidt and Barbara Mason show us pure abstraction that doesn’t directly reference anything, but rather evokes a feeling or an emotional response. Kelly Orr and Trisha Hassler bring to their work the deeper meaning of the struggle between opposites as they compose meaning into their work.
