For this group show at Waterstone Gallery, curators Martha Pfanschmidt and R. Keaney Rathbun have invited 9 artists to exhibit work with them using the bird as a stand-in for the human condition. The bird, long a symbol of strength, fraility, freedom and vulnerability, has been used by artists as a proxy for ideas of what it means to be mortal. The artists in this exhibition are Rick Bartow, Frank Boyden, Robin and John Gumaelius, Marie Hasset, Martha Pfanschmidt , R. Keaney Rathbun, Carol Riley, Thomas Rude, Christopher Shotola-Hardt, and Margaret Van Patten.
