Memories of her 4-year old self dressed in a swimming suit made of corduroy laid the foundation for Shu-Ju Wang’s upcoming exhibit Things That Don’t Float. From that sense of heaviness, the fear that she could not float nor get out of the water, Wang creates a world that is simultaneously humorous, beautiful, strange, and a little disquieting.
The exhibit includes recent paintings of sodden objects and sculptures made of inappropriate materials (but child-friendly). Her collaborative work with Stephen Adams, introduced in the August exhibit Rain by Stephen Adams, continues this month.
