Shawn Demarest’s series of oil paintings explores expressive mark-making and at times pivots into magical realism. Reflections on wet streets, cars and diminishing perspectives inspire this work. Reference images are often the view looking out from the inside of a car (or vessel) toward other cars on the road. As the series progressed, Demarest viewed the cars as motley groups of ships navigating wet streets.
Careen Stoll is a potter known for elegant asymmetrical forms. Her work touches the supple skin and delicate bones of porcelain. She often creates dimpled pieces that are comfortable in the hand, with a gentle reference to the female body. This exhibit will feature larger and more sculptural works that reference the inherent nature of the body as vessel.
