Both McCulloch and Piper are influenced by their immediate natural surroundings. McCulloch’s regional landscapes document the agricultural processes and crops that continually deplete and replenish her rural neighborhood – she is especially captivated by the varying tones and values of bright reds to near black found in the fields of Crimson Clover that briefly bloom each May. Piper often incorporates found stones into his lathe-turned and carved sculptures as well as working with a variety of wood species including Madrone and Yellow Cedar.
