In this new exhibition Nancy Arko continues to depict her interest in nature. Focusing on water, she takes us along on a celebration of life as seen in the colors, movements and forms of the watery aspects of our world. From out-of-this-world-views to the waters of every day life, Arko celebrates this necessity for life, one she hopes we don’t take for granted.
In the artist’s words, “We all know that the presence of water makes life on earth possible and with life we are given a variety of gifts in the form of our senses. In my work I am trying to depict some of this sensory information and the feelings they evoke in me, both tactile and emotional.. Wrapped in these paintings are dreams, some fears, and many lovely memories.”
Arko is a Portland artist and has been a member of Waterstone Gallery since 1994. She has a formal background in zoology, and in art, and has worked as a biological illustrator, biology teacher, biomedical researcher, and in recent years, an art instructor.
