While on his way to dine at a local Asian restaurant, Thomas Rude decided to let the fortune in his cookie decide whether he should include in his upcoming show some pieces he had started many years ago. These pieces relate to the sardine fisheries in Monterey, California where he was living at the time. The work addresses issues of over-fishing, a topic as relevant today as it was then. His fortune read: “Water and boats are in your future. Have fun.” He took that as an affirmation. One thing for sure, Thomas Rude has fun, and he shares that fun with us. His work is not only humorous, but thought-provoking, beautifully crafted and elegantly composed. This exhibition includes screen prints, linocuts and sculpture.
