Man Cans and Boy Toys 2
July 6, 2011 – July 31, 2011
Man Cans and Boy Toys 2, Jim Koudelka’s newest body of work, is based on his industrial/ mechanical interests as well as his playful interactions with his young son, Jasper. These vessel sculptures are a combination of these adult and childlike sensibilities manifested through primary colors, bold patterns, stacked shapes, text and simple interactive devices. His new “big boy toys” are sculptures that simultaneously convey an adult sophistication along with a degree of boyish playfulness.
Jim Koudelka is a Professor of Ceramics at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland, Oregon where he has taught for the past twenty-one years. He has maintained an involvement throughout his career in both functional and sculptural work. His work has been exhibited in numerous national and regional shows; receiving honors and awards and has been published in a variety of books and magazines.
